Two geese and five goslings near the southwestern bay; mallard and three duckings farther north. Avian cacophony along the north shore. Paths not so busy as yesterday; few if any boats.

Turtle sunning on fallen branch along the southern shore; great blue heron standing twig-like amid twigs, staring the other way. Creek-bed brown, with a scrim of green algae or moss; the creek-side fully green (except for the purple Virginia waterleaf flowers, at their peak and abundant). High clouds to south, more open sky to the north; some sun. Light breeze from the north. Mallards and swallows. Paths busy, many joggers young and old, in packs; many bikes on the bike path. Two chestnut trees, one large, one small, in impressive bloom along path to SW. Mallard with three ducklings near the band shell. A couple of flat-bottomed fishing boats on the lake, a couple of kayaks, and a dozen sailboats, eleven with white sails and one polycolored, enliven the view from the north, otherwise two flat areas of gray divided by a horizontal green line. Raucous songbirds. Honeysuckle still abundant. Yellow wildflowers TBI coming into bloom along the W path.

High, thin clouds; some sunlight; little wind. Mallard and eight ducklings near the SW swimming beach, the ducklings not much grown. Muskrat swimming near the band shell in the algae. A canoe, a few sailboats, a kayak, and a flat-bottomed boat (two fishermen standing) in the water. Virginia waterleaf in abundant bloom along the creek, although many plants show wilting leaves.

Sunny, cirrus with incoming cirrostratus, breeze from the south. A few mallards; grackles, a robin; calls of blackbirds along the northern shore; no swallows in view, a couple of gulls in the middle of the lake. Water low, but transparent along the shore, away from the milfoil and algae. Paths busy with people and dogs. Planes landing without too much noise. Mother mallard and eight ducklings placidly share the water with waders at the southwest swimming beach. Violets still abundant along the creek, matched with ground ivy. Creek now dry south of the footbridge: no current.

Cirrostratus cover, breeze from the south. A few mallards on the lake, more swallows over it; sparrows, grackle; an unidentified pair fly and perch like small hawks. Many pink honeysuckle bushes coming into bloom, along with other bushes and low-growing plants, including Virginia waterleaf, which was one of the first plants to green up the creek side in the spring, and has begun to flower this week; and impressive stands of large-flowered bellwort in the woods along the sourthern and western banks. Dandelions are more conspicuous, in the open, if not more abundant; violets still flourishing. Creek barely an inch deep in places, current in pools hardly perceptible.

Sunny, cool breeze from west, a few diffuse cirrus clouds moving in. A few mallards about, the southern half of the lake busy with swallows. Several gulls or terns flying around to the north. A few blackbirds on trees near the water. Bright yellow warbler resting in the sun on a willow in the northwest drainage area. A sailboat adrift, run aground on the rocks along the western shore. Cherry trees next to the shore coming into full bloom.

Many varieties of inconspicuous flowering plants along the creek.Thin stratus; good breeze from the southeast. The south shore out of the wind; some mallards close to shore, including a pair with ten or so ducklings; large turtle poised on a branch in the water. Fisherman on the bank, another in a small plastic shell like a kayak. Domestic mallards on the land near the band shell get their feathers ruffled walking away from the wind. Swallows in the air over the lake. A pair of ducklings forging their way east against the waves on the north shore; a couple of grackles more settled there. Another turtle on the west shore, on a branch in the water.

A fisherman in a metal boat with a small engine. A few swallows swooping around the northern shore. Blackbird loud in a tree, grackle poking along the shore. Two men in a canoe. Two mallards and a turtle rest on a downed willow branch jutting out into the water. Some weak vegetation along the creek shows stress from the lack of rain. Two good stands of an unfamiliar wildflower, multiple small white blossoms with yellow centers held high by thin stalks, which bear arrow-shaped leaves below.

High patchy clouds, good sun; little breeze. A few mallards near the south shore; a few more coots. Four loud geese close to the western shore. Bright filmy tendrils of algae cover the rocks all along the shore; many small fish darting about. Very loud woodpecker at work in the marsh to the north; the air filled with bird calls. A great blue heron circles the center of the lake, lands, spreads its wings, takes off, lands again, then flies high. Several mallards exploring the draining creek. White violets carpet a large stretch of ground.

(Late this afternoon.) Mild. Large patches of clumping cumulus, blue sky, sprinkles; good breeze from the southwest, just cresting waves on the northern half of the lake. A few dozen coots sticking close to the southeast shore; occasional mallards; a turtle perched on a rock in the southwest bay. Four gulls paddling into the breeze near the north shore and dozens farther out. Paths busy with runners and walkers. Trees and brush now mostly green, the brown leaves along the creek now mostly covered with fresh vegetation. Creek quite low.

Racks and sheets of cumulostratus with large patches of blue sky and scattered sun. Mild breeze from the northwest; mild air. Birds audible, not visible, in the bird sanctuary. The floating plastic gangway is now grounded, and much disrupted by last winter's ice. A black butterfly in the path. More than a dozen sailboats are now moored at their buoys, decked out with lines of fluttering plastic pennants in primary colors meant to discourage gulls. A few gulls flying aboutt; the usual mallards; a crow. Violets beginning to bloom in masses near the creek; otherwise spring's growth is still tentative, the brush and trees as much brown as green.
