Almost cloudless blue sky; breeze from the west; beaches and paths busy. Mallards, swallows, gulls. The dozen geese have hunkered down on the narrow strip of grass between the path and the western shore, ignoring the passing crowds. The shelf of water milfoil and algae stretches out scores of yards from the eastern shore, appearing to narrow the range of the dozen sailboats and several canoes on the water.
Later: cloudless evening; golden sunlight on the water. Hundreds of people gather at the band shell to hear the Gilbert and Sullivan Very Light Opera Company perform H.M.S. Pinafore with a band from the Minnesota Orchestra. Following a different script, hundreds of swallows swoop in and out to and from the roof over the stage.
