Color variations and callus

What: A bush that has inconsistent colors
Where: My neighbor's yard in South Minneapolis
So: On the left side of the plant, you can see that the chlorophyll production has not subsided, but on the right side of the plant it has -- leaving the carotinoid pigments to reflect yellow, and even evidence of anthocyanins on the top of the plant where it is getting the most light.

What: A callus from grafting on a ornamental crab apple
Where: In the boulevard of my street in South Minneapolis
So: My neighbor planted this tree illegally (the blvd is technically the city's domain), a few years ago. It looks like there is a callused area at the base (see pic).
