Paris Hilton faces jail time--By: Hannah Mikels

City prosecuters said Thursday they plan to ask a judge to revoke Paris Hilton's probation in a reckless driving case, a move that could result in jail time for the hotel heiress, according to CNN.
This resulted from an investigation into whether Hilton violated terms of her probation by driving last month with a suspended license, according to wcco.com.
Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for the city attorney's office, feels they have sufficent evidence that her license was revoked and Hilton was fully aware of the suspension, according to wcco.com.
Hilton could face up to 90 days in jail if a judge finds her guilty of violating her probation, according to the Toronto Star.
The hearing was set for April 17, but Hilton is not required to attend, according to the Toronto Star.

Girl kicked off flight for coughing fit--By: Hannah Mikels

A 16-year-old Hawaiian girl was kicked off her flight home from a school trip in New York, according to Business Week.
Rachel Collier caught a cold during her trip and was removed from the Continental Airlines plane due to a coughing fit as it was about to take off from Newark, N.J., for Honolulu earlier this week, according to wcco.com.
The flight attendants gave her water, and a doctor gave her the OK to make the 10-hour trip, yet the captain still returned the airplane to the gate to drop off the girl and one of her teacher's according to startribune.com.
The captain felt he was acting in the best interest of the girl and the other passengers on the flight, according to Business Week.
Continental reimbursed the two for the accommodations they were forced to make in New York and for the trip home the next day, according to wcco.com.

Tilt-A-Whirl to be official state ride--By: Hannah Mikels

The state of Minn. may soon have an official ride, according to kare11.com.
State Rep., Patti Fritz, DFL-Faribault, has introduced a bill that designates the Tilt-A-Whirl as the official amusement ride, according to wcco.com.
The idea was brought to Fritz's attention by 52 kindergarden students who are proud that the ride was invented in their town, according to startribune.com.
The Tilt-A-Whirl has seven four-passenger carts that spin independently on a wavy, circular platform, according to startribune.com.
The ride was first invented in 1926 by a Faribault man named Herbert Sellner and was debuted at the MInnesota State Fair a year later, according to kare11.com.
The Tilt-A-Whirl will join the ranks with many other state symbols such as the blueberry muffin, the monarch butterfly, and milk, according to wcco.com.

Fake volcano fire at water park--By: Hannah Mikels

A Duluth water park reopened Friday after a fire caused evacuation Thursday night, according to kare11.com.
A 20-foot-tall plastic volcano at The Edge water park started on fire due to a malfunctioning speaker located inside of it, said the hotel manager, according to wcco.com.
Hotel guests claimed the flames reached three to four feet in the air, according to startribune.com.
Firefighters, who were called at around 6:40 p.m., and an automatic sprinkler head above the volcano quickly brought the flames under control, according to kare11.com.
Guests were evacuated to two nearby restuarants and were later treated to in-room ice cream, according to wcco.com.

Brazilian housewife kills, chops, fries husband--By: Hannah Mikels

A Brazilian housewife was convicted and sentenced to 19 years in prison Friday for killing her husband, chopping him into peices, and frying him up, according to wcco.com.
Rosanita Nery dos Santos, 52, drugged her husbad, Jose Raimundo Soares dos Santos, in his sleep and then stabbed him to death two years ago in Salvador, according to wcco.com.
Shen then cut his body into more than 100 pieces, boiled the pieces and fried them before putting them in plastic bags and hiding them under the staircase in their house, according to the Houston Chronicle.
An anonymous phone call led police to the body, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The killing was believed to be either a part of a black magic ritual or an attempt by the wife to collect $34,000 worth of life insurance, according to CNN.
Santos denied killing her husbad but admitted to chopping up his body, claiming intruders murdered her husband and forced her to chop and fry the pieces, according to CNN.

Rat poison has been found in pet food that has killed at least 16 cats and dogs, a spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday, according to kare11.com.
The poison found in "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food has been identified as Aminopterin, a cancer drug and a rat poison used in other countries, according to Newsday.
Scientists had no theories on how aminopterin got into the products of Menu Foods, which makes pet food for most of North America's top retailers, according to Newsday.
Sixty million cans and pouches of "wet" food were recalled due to contamination, which affected 95 name brands, according to Business Week.
The amount of Aminopterin, 40 parts per million, found in the food can cause kidney failure in cats and dogs, according to Newsday.

Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer will sit out for a few days for treatment due to a stress reaction in his left fibula, according to kare11.com.
The injury is a precursor to a stress fracture, and nothing more serious was found with an MRI, according to wcco.com.
The Twins discovered the injury after Mauer complained of soreness in his leg, according to kstp.com.
Mauer suffered a knee injury to the same leg in his 2004 rookie season, according to wcco.com.
Mauer will undergo physical therapy and treatment with a bone stimulator before being re-evaluated Sunday, according to kstp.com.

A 20-year-old Superior man recieved probation after he was convicted of having sexual contact with a dead deer, according to wcco.com.
Hathaway pleaded no contest earlier this month to misdemeanor mistreatment of an animal for the incident involving the deer, according to the Hartford Courant.
He was sentenced Tuesday in Douglas County Circuit Court, according to wcco.com.
Bryan James Hathaway will be evaluated as a sex offender and treated at the Institute for Psychological and Sexual Health in Duluth, Minn., according to kare11.com.

Tubby to coach Gophers--By: Hannah Mikels

Kentucky's Tubby Smith will be the new coach for the University of Minnesota Men's basketball team, school officials said Thursday.
The University has set a news conference for Friday at noon, according to kare11.com.
Minnesota athletics director, Joel Maturi, called Smith Thursday morning to discuss the position, according to wcco.com. Maturi flew out to Kentucky later that day to meet with Smith, according to wcco.com.
Smith led Kentucky to the 1998 national championship in his first season, but failed to make a return to the Final Four since then, according to kstp.com.
Smith will be taking over a program that finished 9-22 overall, 3-13 in the conference. The 22 losses were the most in Gopher history, according to wcco.com.

Miss USA Tara Conner reflected on her reign Thursday as it will come to an end on March 23, according to kstp.com.
Conner's family will be in attendance at the Miss USA pageant in Los Angeles to support the controversial-ridden beauty queen, according to kstp.com.
Conner says she will always be addicted to alcohol and will have to work day-by-day to recover, referring to the scrutiny she recieved after frequenting New York bars while underage and undergoing drug rehab in Pennsylvania for her drinking, according to abcnews.com.
Conner claims rehab humbled her and made her realize her place in society, according to newsday.com.

The moon is expected to pass behind the Earth's shadow Saturday in the first total lunar eclipse in three years, according to cnn.com.
Views in Asia to the Americas will have a partial view, although those in Europe, Africa and the Middle East will have the best view, according to cnn.com.
Lunar eclipses occur when Earth passes between the sun and the moon, blocking the sun's light, according to forbes.com.
Earth's shadow will begin moving across the moon at 3:18 p.m. ET Saturday, with the total eclipse occurring at 5:44 p.m. ET and lasting more than an hour, according to Scientific American.
The next total lunar eclipse will be on August 28, according to Scientific American.

Tornadoes hit Alabama high school, killing 15--By: Hannah Mikels

Tornadoes killed 15 Thursday at an Alabama high school where students were trapped under a collapsed roof, according to state officials, according to wcco.com.
Crews dug through piles of rubble beneath portable lights at Enterprise High School, looking for other victims, according to kstp.com.
The storm struck at about 1:15, according to kstp.com.
There was much damage including the destroyed stadium, tipped over cars, and ripped out trees, according to kare11.com.
