Poisoned pet food--By: Hannah Mikels

Rat poison has been found in pet food that has killed at least 16 cats and dogs, a spokeswoman for the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday, according to kare11.com.
The poison found in "cuts and gravy" style dog and cat food has been identified as Aminopterin, a cancer drug and a rat poison used in other countries, according to Newsday.
Scientists had no theories on how aminopterin got into the products of Menu Foods, which makes pet food for most of North America's top retailers, according to Newsday.
Sixty million cans and pouches of "wet" food were recalled due to contamination, which affected 95 name brands, according to Business Week.
The amount of Aminopterin, 40 parts per million, found in the food can cause kidney failure in cats and dogs, according to Newsday.
