On the eve of the 2007 Gopher Football Spring Game, the Pioneer Press is reporting that three University football players have been taken into custody "following a complaint of criminal sexual conduct."
The Minnesota Daily also reported on the arrests with an update on their Web site.
New Gopher Coach Tim Brewster immediately suspended the three players until the investigation is complete.
UPDATE: The Pioneer Press updated the article on their Web site, now with the headline including the words "rape case." The Press reported the names of the players later Friday night. They are Alex Daniels, 20, Keith Massey, 20, and E.J. Jones, 19. The Press also reported that the incident occurred sometime between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.
UPDATE: The Pioneer Press updated their coverage again just after midnight on Saturday, adding Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi's reaction to the arrests, and a short profile of each player. They altered their headline again to read: 3 Gophers football players jailed in rape.
UPDATE: The Star Tribune posted an article on their Web site shortly after midnight Saturday about the case. The article is located in the Sports section, and bears the headline: Gophers football players arrested in assault case.
