I think that this reading was very helpful in a way that it gave me different ideas on how to approach the design of my brochure. Each design listed is an aggressive approach to only one audience so I have decided to use these different ideas and combine them to sell the idea of a museum in a playful, yet sophisticated way. I will be using a Use-Centred and Bottom Up approach to the design and layout of this brochure. The Bottom Up approach because it follows the characteristics of the individual elements in the layout as the basis for decision making, and I think that because I am doing my brochure on the Museum that the layout should in fact mimic the elements that are depicted within. Also, the Use-Centred because it follows the goals and tasks associated within the design. I will maximize the effects of the photography by supplying detailed information that justifies just what this museum is about.

I wanted to show a design that had a sense of unity, but without actually saying it. I wanted the graphic to speak for itself and appropriately display my theme. The hands are holding on to each other to show how we can help each other, no matter what race, gender or color. The world is in the center of the picture to demonstrate the level of importance that it takes for everyone to unify. Further exemplified by the texts which contain every country that I could find, no country is on there twice. I did not make certain countries larger or smaller to show a level of importance but quite simply to catch your eye. The underlying theme, I think, facilitates unity, how we can all contribute to make a better world of filled with unity and togetherness.

Set back at its simplicity but at the same time complexity of the piece, I was amazed at how his use of color and graphics chosen completely bring this design together. His theme of shapes, squares and circles mainly along with lines, unify the design along with the type chosen. The rings in the center give an olympic feel to the event that is taking place.

I found this design from the website with the article we blogged about http://www.icograda.org/news/year/2010_news/articles1735.htm. I think the design differs from that of the U.S in a sense of simplicity. It has a repeated quality throughout the typography and the choice of color. The fonts used in the design do not differ, as opposed to the U.S. where we use different styles and fonts throughout most of our designs. The soft lime green and the red used in the type give it a sort of christmas theme, which might be what they were going for but who knows. This designs only graphic is the acronym of European Design Training Incubator (edti), whereas the U.S. is more graphic oriented. Overall, the design works well for the article. It tells you what you're going to read about and doesn't stray from the theme.
