President Obama issued an apology to Attorney General Kamala Harris Thursday for a comment he made at a Democratic fundraiser about her looks, according to news sources.
Obama told a group of wealthy donors during a speech that Harris was "brilliant," "tough," and "the best looking Attorney General in the country," which resulted in applause from the crowd, according to the New York Times.
The problem, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, is that even the politest and smallest comment aimed at a female politician's looks can diminish her accomplishments.
The President did call Harris to apologize for the distraction caused by his comments, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Gil Duran, a spokesperson for Harris said, with some slight hesitation, that Harris did accept his apology.
Duran also noted that Obama and Harris are old friends and Harris has always and will continue to support Obama, according to the New York Times.
