H.W. Wilson and MLA to make article-level records available in OCLC WorldCat.org

DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, 17 June 2008—Database producers H.W. Wilson and MLA have agreed to make article-level records available in WorldCat.org, increasing visibility and access to authoritative content licensed by libraries on the Web.

MLA and H.W. Wilson will permit a portion of their content to be indexed in WorldCat.org, the Web destination that allows information seekers to find what they need from a single source, online through OCLC’s cooperative organization of libraries.

The article-level metadata from H.W. Wilson and MLA will be added to the more than 50 million articles indexed from NLM MEDLINE, the Department of Education’s ERIC database, the British Library Inside serials, the GPO Monthly Catalog and the OCLC ArticleFirst® database to expand access and discovery of authoritative content through WorldCat.org.

OCLC will continue to add article-level records to WorldCat.org to enrich the search experience, and make collections from libraries more visible on the Web.

"Information seekers value authoritative content but often have a difficult time finding such content on the Web," said Chip Nilges, Vice President, OCLC Business Development. "By making these resources available through the WorldCat.org platform, Web searchers will be better able to find what they need, when and where they need it from libraries through the Web."

"We know that Web users want to discover relevant content and they will appreciate the ability to link to it from WorldCat.org and access Wilson data through their local library,” said Deborah Loeding, Vice President, H.W. Wilson Sales & Marketing.

"The Modern Language Association is pleased to participate in WorldCat's rich collection of resources for today’s information seeker," said Rosemary Feal, Executive Director of MLA. "We are proud to play a part in helping people discover print and electronic, language and literature scholarly publications through this innovative platform."

SAGE Purchases CQ Press

Effective May 30, 2008 SAGE has acquired CQ Press, the book publishing unit of Washington, DC-based Congressional Quarterly, Inc.

June 5, 2008

Dear Sir or Madam:

As a valued consortia customer, I am writing to share some exciting news. Effective May 30, 2008 SAGE has acquired CQ Press, the book publishing unit of Washington, DC-based Congressional Quarterly, Inc.

As you know, CQ Press is a highly respected publisher of books and reference materials for the library, college, and professional markets. Its publishing program, specializing in a variety of disciplines across the political and social sciences, is widely recognized for editorial excellence and authoritative content.

While CQ Press will become a division of SAGE, it will continue to operate independently. SAGE will maintain the CQ Press brand, and the editorial and administrative offices will remain in Washington, DC.

Since both companies will be maintaining their independence we will continue with “business as usual” with regard to purchasing, accounting and all other administrative functions. Your orders and payments for CQ Press products will still be processed by CQ Press. Likewise, there will be no change to your SAGE processes.

Discount structures and any pre-existing contracts for both companies will also remain unchanged.

We’re very pleased that CQ Press has joined the global SAGE family and both SAGE and CQ Press look forward to continuing our relationship with you.

For additional information on either company, please visit www.sagepub.com or www.cqpress.com. Should you have remaining questions or require additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Michael Schluter

OCLC FirstSearch Pay-Per-Search Price Increase

Effective July 1, 2008, the price for OCLC FirstSearch Pay-Per-Search searches will increase to $1.05 (current pricing is $1.00 per search).

Libraries can purchase FirstSearch searches in blocks of 500 searches; the minimum order is 500.

Searches purchased under the per-search pricing option are valid for two years immediately following their purchase. They expire at the end of those two years unless the purchasing library has subsequently bought access to FirstSearch under any pricing option (per-search or subscription) during that period. When a library makes such an additional purchase, its per-search searches will have their expiration date adjusted so that they expire two years after the library’s latest FirstSearch purchase.
