Introductory PsycINFO Training

The American Psychological Association is pleased to invite you to attend a PsycINFO Webinar. We offer a 50-minute webinar titled "Introduction to the APA Research Databases" on several popular search platforms.

Introductory training is intended primarily for students who have not yet had a research methods class, though it is also useful for librarians, faculty, and researchers who are not familiar with the APA databases or are accessing them on a platform that is new to them. It will provide an overview of the APA research databases and the platform features and show you how to manage your results, create alerts, and set up personal accounts.

In addition, it will demonstrate how to craft searches that make use of controlled and natural language and the fields and limits available in the databases.

We encourage librarians and instructors to arrange Webinar sessions for students. If the prearranged times below are not convenient, please contact us to arrange a custom session.

If this session is appropriate for you, please email psycinfowebinars@apa.org with "Introductory Training" in the subject line, indicating the session you wish to attend. All times are listed in Eastern Time.

  • PsycINFO on APA PsycNET October 7, 2009 2:00 p.m.
  • PsycINFO on EBSCOhost October 14, 2009 2:00 p.m.
  • PsycINFO on CSA Illumina October 21, 2009 11:00 a.m.

Hundreds of titles added to Credo this year

from Credo Reference:

It's been a year since Credo Reference, the award winning online reference library, released its new platform, raising the standard for how online reference services should work for libraries. Since then, Credo has substantially expanded the academic content available on the platform, all at no additional cost for Credo Unlimited customers.

"In deciding which titles to add to Credo, we've relied on suggestions from customers, prospects, and editorial experts, taking particular note of designations of excellence from RUSA, CILIP, Library Journal and Choice," commented John G. Dove, Credo President. "We also polled educators and subject librarians from universities with exceptional programs in core academic subjects, paying particular attention to subject encyclopedias on interdisciplinary topics where students are often at a loss to get a good grounding."

Some of the highlights of the significant augmentation of Credo's content in the past year are:

  • 173 new subject encyclopedias and dictionaries

  • 10 new publishers:

    • Edinburgh University Press

    • Edward Elgar

    • M.E. Sharpe

    • O.E.C.D.

    • Pearson Education

    • Perseus

    • SAGE Publications

    • Springer

    • University of Chicago Press

    • Willan Publishing

  • Comprehensive coverage of 15 core undergraduate subjects

  • Now 150+ Credo titles are found in Choice's list of 'must-have' titles for U.S. colleges and universities (Resources for College Libraries)

  • Over 25 existing titles updated at no expense to customers

"Users have responded very positively to the continually enhanced Credo Reference platform throughout this past year," added Dove. "Now with the thoughtful and comprehensive enrichment of content on the platform, they have an unsurpassed resource for accurate and coherent research."
