NetLibrary Access to be Discountinued on WorldCat.org, WorldCat Local and WorldCat Local Quick Start
OCLC plans to discontinue access to the NetLibrary database on WorldCat.org, WorldCat Local and WorldCat Local "quick start" on May 30. This database of NetLibrary metadata was released in July 2009 to facilitate discovery of NetLibrary eBooks and eAudiobooks through WorldCat.org-based services. Discontinuation of the discrete NetLibrary database is a result of the March 2010 acquisition of NetLibrary by EBSCO Publishing.
OCLC will continue to enable discovery of eBook resources in libraries through the following databases:
- WorldCat - All eBooks cataloged in WorldCat by OCLC member libraries are visible to searchers on WorldCat.org and FirstSearch.
- Electronic Books - This subset of more than 3.3 million eBook records in WorldCat helps users more quickly find eBook resources libraries have added to WorldCat because it includes only eBook records. You may configure access to this database through WorldCat.org, WorldCat Local and WorldCat Local "quick start" through your library's profile in the Service Configuration module.
Libraries that have configured access to the NetLibrary database may discontinue this access before May 30 by modifying their profiles in the Service Configuration module. If they do not modify their profiles in the Service Configuration before May 30, the NetLibrary database will automatically disappear from the database selection options users see in the advanced search screen. Library staffs who need assistance with configuration changes should contact OCLC Customer Support email@example.com, 1-800-848-5800 (US) or 614-793-8682.
OCLC has identified the libraries that have enabled access to the NetLibrary database and is contacting them directly about the upcoming change.
