Project MUSE's new interface, featuring book and journal content integrated on a single platform, is up and running at muse.jhu.edu. Over 12,000 scholarly book titles from nearly 70 distinguished university presses and related publishers can now be located and browsed along with the content from MUSE's more than 500 respected journals. Further, new 2012 book titles will soon begin appearing on MUSE, simultaneously with their release in print.
Highlights of the new interface include:
- Faceted searching, with options to filter search results by content type (book or journal), subject area, author, and language of publication
- Enhanced browsing by subject area, title, or publisher, across books and journals or filtered by content type
- Search box on each page of the site, with predictive search terms
- New access icons to help users clearly identify content to which they have paid access, free sample content, and open access content
Until January 31, search results will default to displaying all relevant results from both books and journals, to encourage discovery of the depth and breadth of new content now available on MUSE. Users at institutions which have purchased or subscribed to book collections on MUSE will have full-text access to content from those collections. Users may choose to pre-filter searches to just journals or just books, using the drop-down menu that accompanies the search box on every page. They may also use the new search facets to filter their search results by content type, and to only content for which they have full-text access.
Beginning February 1, search results will default to only content to which the searcher has full-text access. Users will then have the option to toggle the search to show all available books and journals relevant to a search, if desired.

MUSE continues to roll out many additional features and tools on the new site, with frequent updates planned over the next several days and weeks. Users are encouraged to provide feedback on any issues encountered when using the new interface.
