Highlighting its growing audiobook collection, EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) released nine new audiobook collections in popular genres, providing public libraries with a quick and convenient way to begin or expand their audiobook offerings.

The latest audiobook sets focus on niche areas of fiction and nonfiction. These collections contain a wide variety of materials from best sellers such as the Hunger Games trilogy and Tina Fey's Bossypants to recently digitized classics such as Edgar Rice Burrough's John Carter. With these latest sets, particular attention was given to very specific areas of interest to public library patrons.

These new audiobook collections are a prepackaged set of titles chosen specifically to fulfill niche areas of interest in a library's readership. The nine new sets that are now available include:

Romantic Fiction Audiobooks

Mystery Fiction Audiobooks

Humor Audiobooks

Sci-Fi Audiobooks

Fantasy Fiction Audiobooks

Biography Audiobooks

Psychological and Suspense Fiction Audiobooks

Historical Fiction and Nonfiction Audiobooks

Christian Fiction Audiobooks

Each collection was created by EBSCO's collection development team of librarians based on popularity, positive recommendations and reviews from trade publications as well as usage statistics. These collections will be updated quarterly with the newest and best titles in each genre, and will be available on the website and for order via EBSCOhost Collection Manager™.

Gateway to America: The People, Places, and Organizations of 19th Century New York™ and Revolutionary War Era Orderly Books™ archive databases from the New-York Historical Society, are now available from EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO). The archives represent the latest in EBSCO's diverse and rapidly expanding collection of digital historical archives.

Jean Ashton, Executive Vice President and Library Director of the New-York Historical Society, says the partnership will enable a greater number of libraries to access the collections. "We are excited to make these important historical collections available to libraries and their constituents worldwide in partnership with EBSCO Publishing."

Gateway to America: The People, Places, and Organizations of 19th-Century New York is a diverse collection of historical directories, year books, registers, member lists, organization reports, guidebooks, primary source documents and publications, and name rich sources from the New-York Historical Society. This unique collection, which includes historical maps, advertisements, and vital records, presents a history of the people and organizations of New York from the late eighteenth through the early twentieth centuries. As New York was the country's focal point of industry, trade, commerce, and immigration, this collection features materials chronicling this gateway to the United States during this influential historical time period.

Revolutionary War Era Orderly Books from the New-York Historical Society contains over 30,000 pages of handwritten, historically valuable material from 1748 to 1817. Orderly Books were the controlling document of the day-to-day life in the military, most notably during the Revolutionary War. They once numbered in the hundreds of thousands and only a fraction of that number still exist. This material is fully transcribed and fully searchable while viewing the handwritten documents. Detailing accounts of troops' daily life, Orderly Books contain important historical information, such as the names of unit members, troop movements, court-martial proceedings, quantities of supplies, relevant acts from Congress, the general state of morale, and other information important to the respective units. Revolutionary War Era Orderly Books provide valuable information about the important and mundane activities of soldiers' lives and are essential sources for researchers.

EBSCO provides access via its Digital Archives Viewerr. The viewer brings content alive and allows users to explore, manipulate, collect, and export content. The unique functionality of the Digital Archives Viewer enables it to reproduce the best aspects of the physical library research experience while incorporating the advances in modern digital technology.

From 1935 to 1967, The March of Time® startled journalists, filmmakers, and audiences alike with its controversial topics and unique approach to newsreels. Produced by Time, Inc® , the "issues", as the newsreels were called, were a blend of confrontational journalism and docudrama. The series began with brief segments in the 1930s and eventually grew in length and scope to television programs of in-depth coverage of a single topic. The full run of the series, digitally remastered by HBO Archives, complete with searchable transcripts, is now available exclusively from Alexander Street Press! Cross-searchable with American History in Video, and World History in Video, this collection has multidisciplinary appeal with films ranging from public health and social sciences to music and the arts.

The most unusual feature of these films was the re-creation or staging of events that had taken place, but had not been photographed by newsreel cameras. The producers argued that they had the same right to clarify news events with staged scenes as a re-write man on a newspaper had with words to make sense out of a reporter's notes. They used professional and amateur actors to impersonate famous people on the screen and then blended the staged scenes with newsreel footage.

You can trial The March of Time® by visiting the CPERS Spring Trials or by requesting a trial from Alexander Street Press.
