Booklist calls Alexander Street Press Music Online the "LexisNexis of Music"

from Alexander Street Press

We are excited to announce that the Alexander Street Music Online cross search platform received a wonderful review in the November 1, 2009 issue of Booklist, where they referred to us as "the LexisNexis of Music"!

A few highlights of the review include:

"The statistics...are impressive - 14,105 CDs and albums; 298 videos totaling 468 hours of dance and opera; more than 550,000 pages of full-text reference; 15,222 scores."

"New material is continually being added in all categories..."

"Classical Scores Library is amazing, the images load quickly and thumbnail images permit scrolling through multiple pages. There are also options for printing less than the entire score..."

"Dance in Video and Opera in Video are also fascinating"...

"Music Online is the LexisNexis of music, and it may make the use of many traditional library resources unnecessary..."

If you are a Booklist subscriber, you can access the review here: http://www.booklistonline.com/default.aspx?page=show_product&pid=3901441

The complete Music Online platform includes: Classical Music Library, Smithsonian Global Sound (final migration end of November), American Song/African American Music, Contemporary World Music, Jazz Music Library, Classical Scores Library, Classical Music Reference Library, The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, African American Music Reference, Dance in Video and Opera in Video all cross-searchable. You can subscribe to the whole package, the streaming package, the listening package or pick and choose individual databases. Users only see what their library subscribes to.

Also, as of yesterday, we've released over 2,000 new albums (over 30,000 new tracks) into Jazz Music Library bringing the collection up to 60,000 tracks!

Should you want a trial or pricing, please contact Minitex.

Serials Solutions notice: NEW UPDATE Regarding System Downtime October 24

Note the new scheduled system downtime (date is the same).

from Serials Solutions:

Dear Serials Solutions Customer,

I apologize for the inconvenience this maintenance window has caused. Our original schedule was in direct conflict with our clients in Asia Pacific and in the Southern Hemisphere, where they are finishing up their school years. In an attempt to accommodate this our subsequent schedule had notable impact on North American customers. In light of this, we have forced our provider to open a new window to better minimize the effect on all our global customers.

The new window is scheduled to upgrade our systems on Saturday, October 24, from 12:01 am PDT (Saturday, October 24, from 0701 GMT). As a result of this upgrade, all services (Serials Solutions 360 services, Client Center, Ulrich's, and Summon) may become unavailable. Our work will be completed in 2 hours. After the work is performed IP addresses are spawned across the world by network providers and services will return as networks are updated. Since network providers vary in their responsiveness we wanted to alert you to a worst case outage of 4 additional hours for a total of 6 hours. I believe your window of downtime will be much less, probably 2 to 3 hours total.

from OCLC:

Credo Reference is a full-text online reference service. The Credo Reference collection includes over three million entries from hundreds of well-regarded titles from over 70 of the world's best reference publishers. Credo's collection is intelligently integrated with millions of cross-references and contains a wide range of subject-specific titles covering everything from art to accountancy, science to Shakespeare and law to literature plus dictionaries, bilingual dictionaries, thesauri, encyclopedias, quotations and atlases. The records being added to WorldCat represent the ebooks that are part of Credo's collection.

When a record for a title from Credo Reference (OCLC symbol CREDO) is added or matched to WorldCat, a 938 field is added to the MARC record that contains the vendor code CRED. This code is indexed; vendor records are searchable in Connexion using the vendor index (Vendor (vn:) in the dropdown menu). Some examples of the records added to WorldCat from Credo Reference are OCLC numbers: #436848185, #437303088. Some examples of records matched in WorldCat are OCLC numbers: #428818194, #246969140

For information about Credo Reference, see their web site at: http://www.credoreference.com
