EBSCO IT News: Changes in Domain Name for Some Areas of EBSCOhost Coming

from EBSCO:

This message is a reminder of a previously communicated change in the network domains and IP addresses for EBSCO services, wherein we requested customers update firewall exceptions and proxy servers to reflect an updated list of domains and IP addresses.

On 15 November 2013, EBSCO is scheduled to complete the final phase of a systems upgrade that will result in changes to the domain name for some areas of EBSCOhost. The intent is to provide additional access points to improve response times for EBSCOhost users.

While we expect customers updated their systems in conjunction with our previous communication regarding the upgrade in 2012, to ensure that no customer experiences an interruption in service, we are asking customers to verify that your local systems reflect the information listed in the Support Site link below.

http://support.ebsco.com/knowledge_base/detail.php?id=966

Note: this upgrade does not affect URLs targeting the search.ebscohost.com domain, which includes locally-hosted search boxes and EBSCO-generated persistent links.

EBSCO Customer Success Center

We are pleased to announce the release of EBSCO’s redesigned Customer Success Center (http://www.ebscohost.com/customerSuccess).  The new Success Center features a cleaner format, includes informative, animated Flash items, and has been reorganized for streamlined navigation.

The most notable Success Center enhancement is its library categories.  Users can search by library type, e.g., Public Libraries, Corporations, Colleges/Universities, to find pertinent library tools faster than ever before!  Each category has its own customized resources, from best practice examples, fundraising ideas, marketing tools, EBSCO logos and buttons and suggested reading, to lessons plans for teachers and success tools for students on research techniques, avoiding plagiarism and other important topics.

All of these valuable tools can be found in easily navigable columns, which can be expanded/collapsed with one click.  The result is efficient access to the support materials and tools that you and your users need.

Along the bottom of the site's homepage, you will find icons to our free databases:  LISTA and GreenFILE, the rotating Feature of the Month section (which highlights new and noteworthy resources), and the site's abundance of Support & Training tools.

Please take a moment to explore the Customer Success Center (http://www.ebscohost.com/customerSuccess), and become familiar with its new and revised categories, features and resources.  We welcome your feedback, suggestions and any questions you may have.

EBSCO Domain Name Change

Effective June 30, EBSCO changed their domain name to ebscohost (from epnet).

From the EBSCO listserv:

Greetings,

As previously announced in our email communications, and in the Top Story on EBSCO’s Support Site, The EBSCO Publishing domain change is now in effect. EBSCO’s automatic redirect of search.epnet.com (etc.) will end on Saturday, June 30, 2007.

This domain change was concurrent with expanding our data center capacity, and will allow us to provide improved online service.

Please take a moment to ensure that you have made all necessary changes to your EBSCO URL’s to accommodate a smooth transition to the new domain.

PROXY SERVER INSTRUCTIONS: Proxy users MUST add the *.ebscohost.com domain to their proxy configurations in order to ensure uninterrupted access to EBSCOhost. To view a typical configuration example, please see this FAQ:

How will the new EBSCOhost domain changes affect my EZproxy config file?

Here is a complete list of URLs grouped by product that you should add to your list of exceptions as appropriate.

For a list of general questions and answers about this change, please see this FAQ.

Additionally, as the hosting needs of this service continue to increase, it is necessary to expand addressable IP space. Therefore, customers who have a firewall that allows specific IP ranges are asked to add this new IP address block (72.164.152.1-254), and any hosts on ebscohost.com to their allowable ranges, to avoid any blockage of users' access to EBSCOhost products. For assistance with firewall exceptions, please see this FAQ.

For assistance with the domain change or IP address range expansion, please contact EBSCO's Technical Support Department by calling (800) 758-5995, or sending an inquiry via our Ask Us form.

For additional questions or comments contact MINITEX.
