GT Superheroes

Mission statement

The goal of the Epidemiology & Community Health Green Team is to conserve resources by

• sharing information with the Division and University

• answering conservation questions knowledgeably

• recommending policies and procedures

• providing a forum for individuals to recommend and pursue conservation efforts

The University's committment to 'greening'

The University has taken the following steps:
- Signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (see entry)
- Joined the Chicago Climate Exchange (see entry)
- Joined the American Association for Sustainability and Higher Education.
- Created IonE, the Institute on the Environment

VP for University Services Kathleen O’Brien oversees sustainability efforts. The TC campus Sustainability Coordinator is Amy Short. The Morris campus Sustainability Coordinator is Troy Goodnough

Green Team Logo

A logo has been chosen!

TC campus Sustainability Coordinator


Amy Short is the TC campus Sustainability Coordinator.
The U is working on large scale ideas, such as adding more recycled content and substituting less toxic chemicals for U Store products. They are also promoting “Just Power Down?, which encourages us to turn off conference room lights during the day.

It appears that we will lead our own projects at the department level. This blog is intended to help us communicate with other departments.

What is the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment?

The University has agreed to reach “climate neutrality? with these steps:

• Within 2 months create structures to implement plan
• Within 1 year inventory greenhouse gas emissions
• Within 2 years write plan for climate neutrality
• Adopt 2 of 7 listed practices/policies (see extended entry)
