National Open Access Week, 10/18-10/22

Open access to research and scholarship has been facilitated by digital technology. For several years NIH-funded medical research has been freely accessible online. Today many open access peer reviewed academic journals are included in the Directory of Open Access Journals.

The University Libraries will hold a series of activities during National Open Access Week, October 18-22, in order to promote awareness.

NOON: 310 Walter Library, Webcast address by Nobel Laureate Harold Varmus, Director of the National Cancer Institute, for National Open Access Week kickoff

NSF Data Management Plan Mandate

As appeared in the DigitalKoans Blog: The National Science Foundation has released its revised NSF Data Sharing Policy. As of January 18, 2011, NSF proposals must include a two-page (or less) "Data Management Plan" in accordance with the Grant Proposal Guide, chapter II.C.2.j (see below excerpt).

KnowItAll U Spectral Databases Now Available

We now have access to the KnowItAll U spectral databases from BioRad which also include property and structure information. It provides online access to the Sadtler Standard Spectra and more. There is a browser-based version as well as desktop-based software. The software allows for structure drawing, reporting, mixture analysis, spectrum processing and analysis, chemometrics, and much more in addition to database searching.
