CLA After-Hours Advising Begins on Oct. 3

Beginning the week of Monday, October 3rd, CLA will being offering After-Hours Walk-in Advising. During after hours, regardless of your CLA Student Community Assignment, you can:
- Ask a basic question about requirements, policies and deadlines
- Get information about other University resources and services
- Book an appointment with your assigned adviser

CLA After-Hours Walk-in Advising will be available beginning the week of October 3rd:
East Bank, 33 Appleby Hall (612-625-2300): Monday through Thursday, 4:30-5:30 pm
West Bank, 575 Heller Hall (612-626-7714): Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm

Everyday Leaders Facilitator - Overview of Position
• Facilitate an after school leadership class one or more times a week in the evening (between the hours of 2-5 pm) at various school locations with Community Education, Minneapolis Public Schools throughout a school year.

Responsibilities
• Establish positive relationships with youth and act as a role model
• Facilitate leadership and service-learning activities for elementary or middle school students
• Provide reflection on student work. Students and staff will be part of evaluation and reflect on their learning in journals or through art forms.

Qualifications
• Experience working with youth in an urban setting
• Good communication skills with youth and adults
• Comfortable working with diverse populations
• Enjoy working with elementary or middle school students
• Able to commit to 5 hours of mandatory paid training and bi monthly support meetings.
• Able to commit to a nine month position
• Enthusiastic about service/service-learning in building leadership in young people.

Salary
• $15.00 an hour

DIVERSITY DAYS at the HUMPHREY SCHOOL

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota is sponsoring the Fifth Annual Diversity Days event for prospective
graduate students, November 1st and 2nd, 2012. Diversity Days is a two day program coordinated to expose students who are
historically underrepresented in higher education to master's programs at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Selected participants will
have the opportunity to meet with faculty, current students, and alumni, as well as experience the life of the Humphrey School and the Twin
Cities Metro. Selected participants who live over 200 miles away from the Twin Cities Metro will be eligible for a transportation grant up to
$400 to cover the cost of airfare and/or car mileage. Diversity Days participants will also have application fees to the Humphrey School
waived.

Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, current students, and alumni, as well as learn more about our nationally


ranked graduate programs in Public Policy; Urban and Regional Planning; Development Practice in international development; and Science,
Technology, and Environmental Policy. We offer self-designed concentrations in a wide range of domestic and international areas, and
we also offer dual degrees with the schools/departments of Law, Business, Public Health, Social Work, and Civil Engineering.

We are seeking your help in encouraging them to apply to this event. The deadline for applying to attend Diversity Days is October 1, 2012.

A recent study cited by Forbes.com showed that 60% of paid college internships led to job offers. Attend the CLA Internship Fair to discuss internship opportunities with a variety of employers who have internships and want to hire CLA students. Starting dates for these opportunities may vary: fall 2012, and spring or summer 2013. Employers at this event will have many diverse internships available in the for-profit, non-profit and government sectors. This event is also an opportunity to develop your networking skills and to get advice about internships and the world of work. Prep Workshops are being offered for this event on Friday, September 21st and Monday, September 24th.

Pre-health student groups will also be in attendance! Many University of Minnesota health related programs will be in attendance this year, as they are every year! We have also invited health professional degree programs that are not available at the U of MN (Physicians Assistant, Podiatry, Optometry, etc).
