The Center for Lung Science and Health (CLSH) serves as the University of Minnesota’s interdisciplinary home for lung research, education, and public outreach. One facet of the center’s mission is to promote and enhance research education and training opportunities in lung science and health.
David Ingbar, M.D., CLSH executive director, recently received a five-year grant of nearly $3.5 million for training for lung science and health from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is the largest NIH training grant awarded to the University and will help ensure that new scientists and clinicians are adequately trained to conduct research that advances knowledge about human lung disease.
This award covers the tuition and stipends for many CLSH research trainees, but only minimal funds are awarded for trainees to purchase the equipment they need to conduct their research. The CLSH needs contributions that are designated for research, research education, and training to help ensure optimal training of lung scientists of the future.
