Do youth today have or need a sense of purpose in life? Does it matter if they do? This webinar examines whether youth have a sense of purpose in life and what the research shows about the importance of purpose as well as the current state of efforts to support the development of purpose in all young people. The concept of youth purpose is based on work by William Damon at the Stanford Center on Adolescence over a number of years. This topic was the focus of the Winter 2011 New Directions for Youth Development entitled "Support and Instruction for Youth Purpose." Guests will include Jenni Menon Mariano from the University of South Florida, who edited the volume, as well as authors Betsy Levine Brown from George Mason University, and Devora Shamah, a researcher with Gateway to College National Network. The discussion will be moderated by Dale A. Blyth from the University of Minnesota Extension Center for Youth Development.
