The chapter Violence and Innocence argues that the common notion that media violence is harmful to children is wrong. Newkirk even suggests that media violence might play an important and beneficial role for children, that children imitating violence is not some new phenomena, but a natural part of human nature.
I first started to think about writing when I was in the 7th grade. It was during that time that I started to really read. Although I had always been an avid reader, I began expanding the types of books that I read. I had a great history teacher that exposed me to many non-fiction books. As I started reading books on wars, and ancient civilizations I began to notice not just the overall story but the way in which the words told that story.
