Even tho last Thursday was my first day of volunteering, I learned so much in the three houses that I was there. While working with the students I have learned that not only this parent has to focus on there language courses, but there live out side of the class room. I have seen some of the parent talking about their life and children’s life and the problem they are facing at home. And the first think I thought about was the desiccation we had in class in the begging of the semester. During the brake I had a chance to talk to two Ethiopian men in the class room about life in general and they laugh at me and asked me how old I was. I told them I was 19 years old they told me what I know about life I’m only 19 and I have long time to figer out. They basically told me to suit up. They were not willing to talk to me because of my age. I think this one of the problem many the immigrant communities are facing. I wasn't mad but, I know I can not talk back to them because that is our custom. I think the things we talked about in class have little connection to my topic and the issues that I’m focusing on. But I started so late that I hade so problem in connecting the class and my sits. But hope fully it works.

I got phone call from the place last weekend. I also met Sara; she is one of the teachers from school. She told me little about her self and how she has love for teaching. She also told me that I can come in Thursday and Tuesdays of this week. And I can start with the work. I’m happy to go there and meet her and student’s .She also told me that I will be working with different group of student’s. Anyways I’m looking forward working with the new students. I’m also going to keep journal on my blog.

Last week I hade the chance to go see the place and meet with some of the teachers, as well as met some of the student’s. She basically showed me around and gave me some papers to sign. At first I thought that I was going to work with some East African Adults, particularly from Ethiopia but, the student’s that I’m going to help or work with are Mexican's and Somalia students. Besides the long bus ride to the place I'm looking forward working with the student’s.

Well, I did get respond from the MPLS community learning center. I found out that, I will be helping, the adult students with home work and tutoring once a week. I'm looking forward to working with the adults there, for many personal reasons. One of them is that, most of the adults there speak the same language and lives the same community as my mother, and I thought that I could help them out and help my community as well. On the other hand I’m most afraid that they will treat me like a child and not listen what I have to say. Because in my culture the oldest help the young not the young helping the older. I think that is the biggest challenge I’m going to face....
