Peer Research Consultants
Launching Fall 2009
The University of Minnesota Libraries have partnered with the Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence and the SMART Learning Commons to provide the Peer Research Consultant Program.  The Peer Research Consultants (PRC) have been recruited from a pool of diverse students with a strong academic record.  All of the PRC's must have completed the WRIT 1301 course (or a similar course) with a grade of B or higher.

Target audiences:
- First Year Writing - The PRC Program will supplement the Unravel Workshops that the University Libraries also provide.
- Multicultural Center for Academic Excellence Academic Support Programs and Scholarships.

The Peer Research Consultants will go through a rigorous training to develop their information literacy skills, tutoring skills, and cultural competency skills.  Once they have completed this training, they will be available to meet one on one with students through a walk in service or through an appointment.

One of the goals of the Peer Research consultants is to provide academic support for University of Minnesota undergraduates and to support the University of Minnesota's Student Learning Outcomes.  Another goal is to support the vision developed by the Office for Equity and Diversity in Fall of 2008.  The priority areas identified for this program are:
- Improve campus climate for diverse students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Engage internal and external communities in re-imagining strategies for achieving the University's retention and success goals for diverse students.
