News From Around the Libraries

Friends of the Libraries Board Retreat
The Friends of the Libraries (FOL) are most often associated with events, but behind the scenes, the FOL Board works to support and bring recognition to our organization.  On Tuesday June 12, 2012, past and current members of the FOL Board held a retreat to welcome new members, report on activities over the past year, and talk about the work that the FOL Board would like to tackle in the upcoming year.

The retreat was chaired by Board Chair and former Dean of the College of Biological Sciences, Pete Magee.  New members include Peter Campion, Colin Campbell, Susan Hagstrum, and John Jarvis.  The five committees of the FOL Board reported on some of their successes from the past year, including the hugely successful student video contest and new communication strategies.  The attendees spent the last part of the retreat talking about future ways that the FOL can support the work of the Libraries in getting out the message about the Libraries in the community and on campus, expanding collaboration with other community and institutional organizations, and assisting with collection acquisition and preservation, including raising funds for the Cultural Heritage Campaign for performing arts and literary archives.

This is a group of individuals that freely gives their time and talents to support the work that we do throughout the Libraries.  They are also some of the most energetic supporters of our work.  It was gratifying to hear them talk about the many positive experiences that they have had with the Libraries and their respect for the work that we do.
