News From Around the Libraries

Walden University Residency Program 2012
Walden University will again hold its Summer Residency Programs at the UMN Twin Cities Campus.  This year, approximately 1,000 Walden students from all over the world, plus faculty and staff, are scheduled to be on campus from July 9 through July 22, 2012.  The Libraries will be available to Walden Residency program participants as a contracted service.  Because of the demanding course and meeting schedule, mostly on the West Bank campus, it is anticipated that most students will have limited opportunity for library research, but they may access any of the Libraries.

Students are not given Internet IDs, but will be able to access resources by signing up through the Public Workstation procedures.  Walden procedures for Cybrarian may be viewed at: https://netfiles.umn.edu/xythoswfs/webview/_xy-13789453_1 .  Please contact Kate Peterson at: katep@umn.edu with questions and concerns.

Lisa McGuire in Video
The School of Public Health (SPH) produced a video featuring Nick Kelly, who does research on influenza.  The Bio-Medical Library plays a prominent role in his discussion of critical resources that support his work - and Lisa McGuire, former liaison to SPH, makes an appearance.  Check it out at: http://www.advances.umn.edu/2012/06/kelley/ .

Libraries Staff Showcase of Celebratory Research
Tuesday, July 10, 2012
2:00 pm to 2:30 pm: Informal networking and cake eating (There will be cake!!...and other light refreshments)
2:30 pm to 4:00 pm: Research Showcase
Room 120, Anderson Library

The Research and Publications Committee and the Librarian Personnel Committee are sponsoring a celebratory showcase of research being conducted by Libraries' staff.  UMN Librarians will share fourteen different research projects in a quick "Lightning Talk" format.  A full roster of Librarians from across the campus is at: https://docs.google.com/a/umn.edu/document/d/1EDVDwwIqSV37Jxi_TdxhAfeWH-7Cky-LMAC09zn_5bw/edit?pli=1 .  This will be a great opportunity to learn what your colleagues are working on and maybe get a great idea for your next research project!

We'll also take this time to recognize and congratulate those librarians that received Continuous Appointment during the 2011/2012 academic year.

Since one of the outcomes of this event is an opportunity to network, this event will not be simulcast.  We hope you can attend!  All are welcome (did I mention the cake?).  Questions?  Contact a member of The Research and Publications Committee or the Librarian Personnel Committee.
- Jon Jeffryes and Kate McCready, on behalf of the Research and Publication Committee and Marilyn McClasky and Amy West, on behalf of the Librarian Personnel Committee
