News From Around the Libraries

Digital Arts and Humanities Report Released
The Digital Arts and Humanities (DAH) Working Group is pleased to release their 2011-2012 report: http://z.umn.edu/dah2012.  The working group spent the last year investigating the digital arts and digital humanities communities, both at the University of Minnesota and farther afield.  The working group looked at models of support, tools and methodologies in the field, scholar needs, and support capacities on campus.  As a result of this effort, the group is making some recommendations for next steps to advance and support work in digital arts and digital humanities at the University of Minnesota.

The report contains a summary of our efforts, findings about the local scholarly community, an overview of available support, and recommended next steps.  The group is very interested in your feedback and a link to the report is included on the DAH blog.  Please feel free to send comments to any of the group members or add your comments to the blog at: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/dah/ .

Gopher Conferencing Service To Be Retired
Many of you have used the University's free Gopher Conferencing service, but, unfortunately, the system is nearing capacity and people using the system have had trouble scheduling and getting into conference calls.  The University Office of Information Technology (OIT) is working to replace the service, with a new service to be put in place approximately thirty days prior to retiring the existing Gopher Conferencing system.  The Gopher Conferencing service will no longer be available effective Monday, December 31, 2012.  The new service will not be free, but OIT expects the cost to be reasonable.  Facilities Operations and Management (FOM) will create a process to support staff who need to use the new system.  More information will be forth coming.

Kristia Davern Leaving Libraries
Kristia Davern, the East Bank Libraries Facilities Manager and a member of Libraries Facilities and Operations Management (FOM), will be leaving the Libraries and the University.  Kristia has accepted a position in her field of interest, Construction Management.  In her eight years with the Libraries, Kristia has provided service and support to staff, projects and committees, throughout the Libraries system, and specifically to the East Bank Libraries.  She exemplifies the meaning of a team player, both in her attitude, willingness to share knowledge, and in providing support in other locations to further Libraries wide goals.  Please join FOM in wishing Kristia the best in her future position.  She will be missed.

Kristia's last day will be November 9, 2012.  A party is being planned for November 9, 2012, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in room 101, Walter Library.  Watch for further details
