Libraries Reach Out During International Education Week
Our outreach to international students with our annual Library Information Fair for International Education Week was a success.  We handed out 180 cookies, talked to 98 students, and 70 students marked their homes on the world map.  Information on a range of libraries resources and services, as well as the SMART commons, was shared with students, staff, and faculty.

Many thanks all of the Physical Sciences and Engineering staff, Lynell Williams, Drew Coveyou, David Faust, Yao Chen and Kristen Mastel, for their participation in this year's event.

MILE is Taking Applications
Are you in a position of leadership within your library?  Do you have aspirations of one day taking a leadership role?   Do you find yourself providing leadership for colleagues even though your official position might not be a leadership position?  If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then MILE 2013 is for you.

MILE is the Minnesota Library Association's Institute for Leadership Excellence.  Our theme this year is MILE 2013: Everyone a Leader.
MILE will help you discover the leader within yourself and give you tools to learn how to lead effectively today - even if your current position isn't one of leadership.

Applications for participation will be accepted through Friday, January 11, 2013. Accepted participants will be notified in February.  Applications and more details are available at: http://milethirteen.weebly.com/ .

Upcoming Webinar on Holdings Comparisons
Holdings Comparisons: Why are they so complicated?
Presenter: Amy Kirchoff, Archives Service Product Manager for Portico
Wednesday, November 28, 2012
1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Room 18, Minitex Conference Room, Elmer L. Andersen Library

Minitex will host a group viewing of a webinar entitled "Holdings Comparisons: Why are they so complicated?"  As librarians look for innovative and effective ways to collaborate and share resources, understanding holdings of partner libraries is imperative not only for resource sharing, but also for preservation purposes.  How can libraries work together to compare their holdings as they think through issues of collection management and preservation?  The presenter will discuss the challenges of comparing holdings and provide suggestions on how to understand the tools that are available to do this.

The webinar is presented by the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS).  For more information, go to: http://www.ala.org/alcts/confevents/upcoming/webinar/112812 .
