News From Around the Libraries

Announcing the Launch of the 2013 Libraries' Core Leadership: Individual Development Program
Libraries Cabinet received nearly thirty exceptional applications for the 2013 Libraries' Core Leadership: Individual Development Program but, unfortunately, were limited to selecting only twelve.  The decision-making process was difficult and selections were based, in part, on a desire to create a cohort that includes individuals from across the Libraries system and all job classes.  The cohort includes: Sarah Anderson (Minitex), Greta Bahnemann (D&T), Nicole Bretall (Content and Collections), Melissa Eighmy Brown (Content and Collections), Chiat Naun Chew (Data and Technolgy), Chris Koehler (Content and Collections), Jonathan Koffel (Health Sciences Libraries), Andrew Palahniuk (Research and Learning), Bill Pederson (Research and Learning), Scott Spicer  (Research and Learning), Danika Stegeman  (Research and Learning), and Jennifer Tantzen (Data and Technolgy).  Thank you to all who applied.

The program will begin in mid-January.  The Libraries expect to offer another session with a new cohort starting next fall.  Read more about this program at: https://docs.google.com/a/umn.edu/document/d/1dTaDWr9PYZWIU-yeq949tfmJHVw7A7-TrLkhuRKT5Gs/edit?hl=en_US .

Best Paper Award to "Library Data and Student Success"
Congratulations to Shane Nackerud and Krista Stacia, Office of Institutional Research, whom recently received the Association for Institutional Research in the Upper Midwest (AIRUM) 2012 best paper award for their presentation on the "Library Data and Student Success" project.  Contributors to this important project included Jan Fransen, Kate Peterson, and Kristen Mastel.  As recipients of this award, Shane and Stacia have been invited to present at the 2013 National Association for Institutional Research Conference (AIR Forum) in Long Beach in May.  Kudos to Shane and the entire project team!

Upcoming Events

Informal Discussion of Faculty Perceptions of eLearning
Today!
Monday December 12, 2012
12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
Room S-30A, O. Meredith Wilson Library or Google Hangout
You're welcome to bring your lunch

We'll have an informal discussion on UMN faculty perceptions of eLearning and particularly Massive Open Online Courses.  This was sparked by some interesting notes from a Faculty Consultative Committee meeting attended by UMN President Kaler.  A discussion document is at: https://docs.google.com/a/umn.edu/document/d/1bRHh5_PcpYeYxc5HFjVWjoPEYU-briQ19I7kGfoUTSM/edit .  The expected outcomes from this session are a better understanding of faculty perceptions and/or the likely characteristics of UMN-authored MOOCs.
