Libraries Receive Muslim Journeys Bookshelf Award
Last week, the Libraries were notified that the University of Minnesota Libraries was one of the organizations selected to receive the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf, a project of the National Endowment for the Humanities Bridging Cultures initiative.  For the grant, the Libraries will receive twenty-five books and three films, and we will sponsor three events with partner institutions which include, Hennepin County Libraries, Augsburg College, and the Saint Paul Area Council of Churches, later this year.  The events will be film screening and discussion sessions that enhance the welcoming culture of the University Libraries and build student critical thinking skills and knowledge.

Susan Gangl led the effort to get this grant and she has already received calls of congratulations from Senator Al Franken's office and from Congressman Keith Ellison.  Congressman Ellison expressed interest in taking part in one of the events.  By receiving this grant, the Libraries are eligible to apply for the forthcoming "Let's Talk About It: Muslim Journeys" grant.  More information about the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf may be found at: http://www.neh.gov/news/press-release/2013-01-09 .
