I finally got to the blog. Either my computer was being difficult or I'm really dumb. Anyway, I can't figure out how to post my own thoughts - all I could do was comment on Alex's. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. In terms of the class, I'd like your opinions about what you thought of the sonnets as a whole. I felt that they were beautiful, for the most part, but after reading all of them, I felt a little depressed and insignificant. They all seem to be about time and mortality and how nothing in life lasts forever (love, the seasons, even life itself). They make me want to do one of two things: Do something spectacular that helps all of human kind, or just give up because nothing really matters in the long run. I'm not really going to give up on life, but thinking about how small and insignificant I am in the course of history is a little depressing. Any thoughts? And please help me with the computer stuff if you can! Thanks, Patience

I also am having trouble. Whenever I login, it only gives me the option to create a blog. It's rather frustrating.
On the topic of the sonnets, however, I would have to agree with Patience that they were beautiful. I, however, did not feel depressed; I was inspired. After reading them, I began working on a sonnet of my own. One of my particular favorites was 116, as it embodies the solidity of true love so very well--better than most poems that attempt the same. I also like how Shakespeare puts a sort of condition (if that's the right word for it) at the end of the piece, stating that if all the above is false, then everything he has written is worthless, and no man has ever loved.
Side note: as I write this, the squirrels are mating--terrorizing a backyard tree. Ah, how romantic indeed.

I had a lot of trouble being able to write my own entry as well. I did everything that Alex said to do and nothing worked. Today, I decided to log in anf just try again, and MAGIC! I did it! I don't know what happened, but just go to blog.lib.umn.edu and click "Login to your blog" on the upper left hand side of the page. You need to put in your x500 and password and then you will get to the movable type page. There you can make your own entries.
oh, btw, the actor that played Mercutio in the Romeo and Juliet we watched was in the Matrix, and currently, he's a leading actor on Lost.....he looks so different I had a hard time figuring it out.
