A New York woman was found dead in Turkey on Saturday evening, after being reported as missing since Jan. 21, police said.

The body of New York mother, Sarai Sierra, was discovered near ancient city walls in Istanbul on Saturday evening, CBS News reported.

The Anadolu Agency located in Turkey did not reveal the cause of Sierra's death. Considering the wounds on Sierra's body, other agencies speculate that the mother of two may have been "stabbed to death" or "hit by an object," according to ABC News.

Police have detained at least nine people for further questioning who were present when the body was found, CBS News's Laura Wells reported.
