A ferocious blizzard made its way across the Northeast region of the country Saturday, leaving more than half a million people powerless, officials said.

Officials say the blizzard blanketing New England is one of the worst storms the region has ever seen. The storm, which continued stronger than ever Saturday morning, has caused several to evacuate their homes, the New York Times reported.

With more than three feet of snow covering some parts of Conneticut and Massachusetts, officials were forced to declare a state of emergency and enforce regulations for safety.

According to the http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/02/blizzard_throws_more_413000_darkness_bay_state, more than 413,000 NStar and National Grid customers are without power in Massachusetts alone.

Because of the harsh conditions, Gov. Deval Patrick was forced to order a statewide driving ban effective until 4 p.m. Saturday, officials told the Boston Herald.
