M.M. candidate Kelley Sundin awarded the Hildegard and Gustav Must Graduate Fellowship in Estonian American Studies

SundinKelley.pngThe Immigration History Research Center (IHRC) at the U of M has awarded the Hildegard and Gustav Must Graduate Fellowship in Estonian American Studies to Kelley Sundin (M.M. candidate, choral conducting). She will conduct research on selected, unpublished choral music for women's chorus from Estonia in the IHRC's Estonian American collections. Sundin's research title is "Estonian Choral Music for the Female Voice: the dissemination of culture, traditions, and stories." The unpublished scores will be premiered on a Master's conducting recital with the University Women's Chorus in November 2012, with historical context added through her IHRC research. SOM Alumni at 30th International Society for Music Education World Conference

School of Music alumni were featured presenters at the at the 30th International Society for Music Education (ISME) World Conference, held in Thessaloniki, Greece (July 15-20, 2012):

Don Running (Ph.D., 2007, music education, student of Scott Lipscomb) presented a workshop titled "The Breadth of Breath: Conducting Gestures with expression and specificity."

Sharri Van Alstine (Ph.D., 2011, music education, student of Akosua Obuo Addo) presented a paper titled "Preservice Elementary Education Teachers: An Internationalized Approach to Music Methods Course work."

Sondra Wieland Howe (Ph.D., 1988, music education, student of Charles Furman/M.A., 1985, musicology, student of Donna Cardamone-Jackson) presented a research poster, "Rediscovering the Muses--Mentors from the History of Women in Music Education."
