Our on-line literary magazine, Intuitive Roots: Verbal, Visual, Literary Meanderings, grew out of an interest to expand pre-service teachers' experiences with e-literacies, broadening their notions of literacy and the enriching opportunities it offers them as future classroom English Teachers. Supported by a Fall 2004 and Fall 2005 Small Chancellor's Grant, we were able to create our work and showcase it digitally. In this way we feel we can reach a larger audience, as students will be able to do through technology in their own classrooms.

During Fall 2004, the students participating in this project read eight adolescent novels. Of the eight they were asked to contribute four pieces toward our collaborative magazine, presenting alternative expressions to literature through the mediums of art, film, music, and creative writing.

Working together each week in class towards this goal we became a rich learning community, learning to respect each others' voices and collaborate effectively while making meaning from the text. Our projects pushed the envelope of our imagination, provoked throughtul class discussion and led to positive reflections about connecting with literature in new and lasting ways. It is my hope that these pre-service teachers will go on to excite the possibilities existent in multi-literacies as teachers someday.

For Fall of 2005, we moved the zine into a different digital format: the blog. In this way, we hope to allow for extended discussion on the projects from not only students, but also the global blogosphere. We hope the new format makes Intuitive Roots a much more interactive, and therefore effective, literary zine.
