What does the word EMPRESS mean to you?
What does the word WORLD mean to you?

Empress - a ruler of a domain - the domain in question in the novel refers to a personal rather than political world. Nic discovers the power of her ability to "rule" her world, without being confined to the constraints of the social worlds within the context of her larger world. Her comfort with this newfound discovery is empowering- hence the term Empress.
World- a microcosm ( a minute world containing self) vs. a macrocosm (the world at large). Nic beging to discover the potency behind embracing her identity within her personal world. It is my feeling that she will be able to move about and circulate in the larger world in a similar manner as Empress of her personal world intersects with the culture of the larger world at hand.

I think of an Empress a graceful, powerful leader. Hopefully, through her grace, beauty, and wisdom, she can lead those she rules over in the best manner possible.
I think of the world as being full of relationships. Thinking of the world as 7 billion relationships is probably too general, and I think in the case of this novel, Nic's world was reduced to that of her Summer Camp.
I think it's really interesting that Nic gives Battle the title of Empress. By this naming, she is allowing that Battle is leading her through the discovery of her world; she places Battle in a position of power. Without her, there is sort of a sense, Nic would not have made the personal discoveries she did.

I think of Empress as a ruler of something. Of course Empress is a female role because Emporer would be a male figure. But when I think of Empress I think of beautiful, confident and stong. In my eyes if you are the leader of something you have to know what you are leading and you have to make smart decisions.
I think of world as everything around you. The places, people, landscapes, experiences. The world around you is influenced by the society, your family and friends.
I think that this question is interesting because Nic gave Battle that title but you are asking how was Nic the Empress of her world. I think that Nic was the Empress of her world because she took control of it. She had the power within her own life to change things and to make her own decisions. She went outside the "normal" stereotypes and she was attracted to another girl. She took control by going with what she felt in her heart was the right thing to do even though everything around her was telling her not to.

The word Empress to me means a woman who is a strong, graceful leader. It signifies truth and justice but done in an understanding and beautiful way.
The word world to me means everything that occurs within your own life. One person's world is only what that person has seen, heard, felt or experienced. There are tons of things, places and occurances that some will never know about and therefore are not in their world.
Nic was the Empress of her world because I feel every woman (emperor if male) stives to be that strong, graceful ruler of their own lives. Nic followed her heart and not what society demanded as correct and therefore made a wise decision much like an Empress would. Her world is exactly what was said earlier, everything she sees, feels, hears and experiences.
