The imagery, supported by Billie Holliday's powerful song, projects the tragedy surrounding Emmett Till's lynching. What is now recorded as history, recreated for us in this picture book, is re-cast as a reminder to not repeat the past, and assert a call for hope in hopelessness, love and forgiveness for hateful actions, though haunted with blood and grief.

I haven't really ever experienced a tragedy. The closed to tragedy has been my grandma's death; however, I knew that she would die of cancer. I simply dealt with it like anyone else: grief!
