Planting Initiation Song (pg.8)

In the poem, Planting Initiation Song, by the Osage People, it talks about all the types of foot prints they've made in their life time, what types of footprints do you think you've made in your life, or someone elses'? What type of footprints would you want to make in the future?

As a teacher, I have left my "footprint" on the souls of many students. Teaching is such an intimate profession in that there are countless opportunities to model ways of thinking about our subject area. As an English teacher, my students had windows to my thinking as a writer and a reader. Through class discussion, I made visible my personal connections to persons, places and things apparent in literature. I hope that I currently have the same impact as a teacher educator, and hope that the methods and strategies I model in class will go on to touch a new generation of learners.
As a mother I have made an impact on my son. There is no greater opportunity than that of a parent.

My greatest footprint has been in the lives of my children. My husband and I were and are their first teachers and are given the task of helping them learn to be independent and to protect them whenever needed.

I think people have an impact on everyone they meet. It might not be big but just by being nice to someone can make a world of a difference. Just like in the book "Criss Cross" people walk in and out of each other lifes and impact them in a subtle way. I hope in the future as a teacher a student will look back and think that somehow I impacted their life. Being remembered and putting a smile on someones face because of something I did is what makes life worthwhile.

I agree with Sara when she states that by being pleasant to people and helping put smiles on peoples faces and making them laugh is what impacts peoples most on an everyday basis. I have tried to succeed in this task throughout my life and will continue to make these subtle impacts on people throughout my existence. However, I will try to make tremendous impacts on my students in the future years to come as I become a teacher.

I think I have made the biggest impact on peoples lives by simply listening and caring about what they have to say. Sometimes the only thing someone needs is for someone to listen and sympathize with them, or share in their joy and excitement with them wehn know one else will.

One footprint I left on my own life was choosing to go to college. It will affect my future. I want to be a teacher and without college, I would not be able to do that. Once I become a teacher, I can then leave footprints in the lives of my students.

I know that I have made footprints on my own life, chosing to get a job when I turned 16, buying my own car, and paying for my own college education are some of the biggest. I think that I have made footprints on my sister's life too because she looks up to me.

I have made "footprints" in the lives of my family and of my closest friends. I have tried to always be there for my younger brothers and to do the same for my parents. I have tried to be a good daughter and sister who makes life happier. I have made "footprints" in my family's history by going to college and in some of the personal choices that I have made that have discontinued some of the destructive cycles in my family.
