  Internship Abroad Experience After Graduation

  Provides young American professionals ages 23-34 with nine-month (Sept-May), executive level internships in the federal government and private sector in Germany.  Focus is on gaining an in-depth understanding of issues facing the European Union and Germany today.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 23-34 years old, college GRADUATES (master's degree preferred), with some professional experience in business administration, economics, journalism and mass communications, law, political science, or public affairs/public policy. 20 awards nationwide. • Carnegie Endowment for Peace Junior Fellows Program

  Deadline (YR.MM.DD): 2008.12.01 (U of M deadline for 2009-10 fellowships)
  Internship Research Senior After Graduation

  Supports one year of service at the Endowment in Washington D.C. Junior Fellows provide research assistance to senior associates on international policy issues, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony, and organize briefings attended by scholars, activists, journalists and government officials. Applicants must be SENIORS or have GRADUATED within the past year; must not have begun graduate study. Must have strong academic records with substantial coursework in such areas as international affairs, political science, economics, or history. May be U.S. citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the U.S. for the award period. 8-10 awards nationwide. The U may endorse up to two candidates. • Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals

  Freshman Undergraduate Graduate Sophomore Internship Junior Senior Abroad Experience After Graduation

  Year-long program beginning in July provides opportunities for young adults to gain cultural understanding, education, and professional experience in Germany. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, age 18-24 at the start of the program; high school, college (FRESHMAN through SENIOR), or GRADUATE STUDENT. Includes classroom instruction and an internship experience.  Award covers international and in-country travel, seminars, and accommodations with a host family. Preferred fields include business, technology, engineering, and agriculture. All fields may apply. German language proficiency is strongly recommended but not required. 75 awards nationwide.   Internship Junior Senior Abroad Experience After Graduation

  Offers two-month-long internship opportunities in the German parliament. Applicants should be advanced undergraduates (JUNIOR or SENIOR) or GRADUATE STUDENTS in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics, or German. Applicants must have strong German language skills; some knowledge of the German legislative process; outstanding academic record and personal integrity; must be U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or foreign national meeting certain conditions. • DAAD InternXchange Internships

  Freshman Undergraduate Sophomore Internship Junior Senior Abroad Experience After Graduation

  New! Supports a 12-week summer internship program in Berlin for Journalism students. Includes six weeks of study at the Freie Universitat Berlin, followed by an intensive 5-week internship with a German media organization and a one-week educational tour. Intended primarily for undergraduates (FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, SENIOR) but recent GRADUATES and GRADUATE STUDENTS may also apply. Must be majoring in Journalism of a related field; must have "advanced intermediate" proficiency in German; must have some prior experience in practical journalism. Up to 20 awards.   Sophomore Internship Junior Abroad Experience

  Supports one semester of study abroad at one of Germany's applied sciences universities, followed by a one-semester professional internship. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS in engineering, science, life sciences, business, management, economics, architecture, art, design, journalism, or social work; U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or foreign national meeting certain conditions. Must have a well-defined study proposal and an interest in contemporary German and European affairs. Must be age 32 or younger at the start of the grant period.   Sophomore Internship Junior Research Abroad Experience

  Supports 6-12-week summer internships working on scientific research projects at top research institutions in Germany. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS studying biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, or engineering. German language skills are helpful but not required; most projects may be carried out in English. Monthly stipend of EUR 650, health insurance, assistance arranging housing.   Undergraduate Sophomore Internship Junior Research Abroad Experience

  For 4-10 months of undergraduate study, senior thesis research, and/or internship in Germany. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS in any field of study; must have outstanding academic record and personal integrity; must be U.S. or Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or foreign national meeting certain conditions; must possess outstanding academic records and personal integrity; demonstrate an interest in contemporary German and European affairs; have well-defined plans for their time in Germany. Must be younger than age 32 at the start of the grant period. German language proficiency is helpful but not required. Approximately 50 are awarded per year. • Emigre Memorial German Internship Program (EMGIP)

  Internship Junior Senior Abroad Experience After Graduation

  Supports one- to three-month internships in the German State Parliaments, in fall, spring, or early summer. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens age 30 or younger, JUNIORS, SENIORS, or GRADUATE STUDENTS, with at least two years of study in international relations, public administration, political science, law, economics, or European studies. Must have high-intermediate German language skills and some relevant work experience. U.S. participants receive a stipend of up to 500 Euro per month. • Honeywell Innovators Scholarships

  Undergraduate Graduate Internship Junior After Graduation

  Provides outstanding students in engineering, science, or technology at eighteen select institutions, including the University of Minnesota, with a scholarship of $10,000 and the opportunity to intern at a Honeywell facility. Applicants must be current JUNIORS or GRADUATE STUDENTS who will graduate between December 2009 and September 2010; in the top 25% of their class; eligible to work in the U.S., China, India, the Czech Republic, or Mexico. • Luce Scholarship Program

  Internship Senior Abroad Experience After Graduation

  For one-year internships in Asia. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, not more than 29 years old, and hold a bachelor's degree by the beginning of the award. SENIORS, GRADUATES, and GRADUATE STUDENTS may apply. Not intended for students whose academic concentration is in any aspect of Asian studies, or who have previous experience living in Asia. Selection criteria include a record of high achievement, outstanding leadership ability, and a clearly defined career interest with evidence of potential for professional accomplishment. Luce Scholars receive a generous living stipend and internship placement. 18 awards nationwide to candidates from select institutions, including the U of M-Twin Cities. • Scoville Peace Fellowships

  Internship Senior After Graduation

  Supports six to nine months at a participating non-profit organization in Washington D.C addressing peace and security issues. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree by the beginning of the fellowship and may have begun graduate study. SENIORS, GRADUATES, and GRADUATE STUDENTS may apply. Preference is given to U.S. citizens, but foreign nationals residing and eligible to work in the U.S. may also apply. Selection criteria include academic excellence, prior study relevant to peace and security issues, public-interest activism or advocacy. Several awards are made annually. • Udall Native American Congressional Internships

  Deadline (YR.MM.DD): 2009.01.30 (for summer 2009 internships)
  Internship Junior Senior After Graduation

  Supports a ten-week summer internship in a congressional office or federal agency in Washington, D.C., for Native American and Alaska Native students with a demonstrated interest in areas related to tribal public policy, including tribal governance, law, health, education, justice, natural resource protection, or economic development. JUNIORS, SENIORS, GRADUATES, and GRADUATE STUDENTS may apply. Applicants must meet the Udall Foundation’s definition of Native American or Alaska Native, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Program includes community-style living accommodations, round-trip airfare to D.C., a daily allowance for meals and other expenses, and a $1,200 education stipend. 12 awarded nationwide. • Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice

  Internship Senior After Graduation

  Supports one year of work as a policy analyst in the Washington D.C. office of Families U.S.A., a national organization for health care consumers, beginning in August. The fellowship aims to develop a network of young leaders who share a passion for social and health care justice. The Villers Fellow works to improve health care coverage for all Americans, especially for low-income or other vulnerable communities; conducts research on health care policy issues; and contributes to publications that are relevant to current health policy debates. Preference is for an indivdual who has completed a college degree in any field by the beginning of the award year (i.e. SENIORS, GRADUATES, GRADUATE STUDENTS). • Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice

  Internship Senior After Graduation

  Supports one year of work in the Washington D.C. office of Families U.S.A., a national organization for health care consumers, beginning in August. The fellowship aims to expand the pool of talented social justice advocates from underrepresented racial and ethnic minority groups. The Wellstone Fellow plays a key role in the organization's outreach to communities of color, and in efforts to overcome health disparities. Offers the opportunity to learn about health care policy issues, grassroots organizing and advocacy. Preference is for an individual who has completed a college degree in any field by the beginning of the award year (i.e. SENIORS, GRADUATES, GRADUATE STUDENTS).
