Supports students with demonstrated financial need who have shown exceptional civic leadership potential through public and community service and scholastic achievement. Extremely competitive; one $5000 award nationwide to a student at a four-year institution. SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS may apply. Citizenship is open. °Honors high school seniors and college students for outstanding achievements, leadership, and commitment to community service. Applicants may be high school seniors or college students currently in their FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, or JUNIOR year. Must be a U.S. citizen attending a U.S. accredited educational institution. Selection criteria include demonstrated character, outstanding achievements, exceptional leadership ability, a serious commitment to community service, academics, and potential to improve the quality of human life. Some priority is given to candidates whose parents are employed in education, government, or other areas of public service. 12-24 grants will be awarded for $2500-$5000 per year and are usable for tuition, room and board, books or other academic expenses. Recognizes exceptional achievements and academic excellence of female college JUNIORS. Selection criteria include outstanding academic record and leadership roles on campus and in the community. Applicants must be full-time Juniors; citizenship is open. Winners receive a $3000 prize, a trip to New York, a meeting with top female professionals, and recognition in the June 2009 issue. °Provides an annual stipend of $10,000 for a graduating SENIOR to pursue public service anywhere in the world. Citizenship is open. One to two awards nationwide. °Honors 60 undergraduates each year for outstanding accomplishments. The 20 “first team” winners receive a $2500 cash prize and are featured in a special edition of USA-Today in February. Applicants must be full-time SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, or SENIORS. Citizenship is open. Criteria include excellent academics, leadership, service, and an outstanding, original academic or intellectual product or endeavor. Campus contact: Sally Lieberman, liebe001@umn.edu. Annual essay contest challenges college students to analyze urgent ethical issues confronting them in today's complex world. Contestants must be full-time JUNIORS or SENIORS at U.S. institutions.
