Recognizes outstanding research and creative work by undergraduates in Ireland and worldwide. JUNIORS, SENIORS, and RECENT GRADUATES in any major may submit their outstanding, A-graded original work, such as a course paper, honors thesis, or arts portfolio, to this annual competition. Citizenship is open. Students from any institution may participate, but the program focuses on top students at top universities, including the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. 30 submissions will be selected for the award and will be published in the Undergraduate Awards journal. Winners are invited to the UA Summit awards ceremony and day of activities in Dublin, with flights and accommodations covered by the organization. Provides funding for undergraduate biomedical engineering (BME) students to conduct a field-relevant activity abroad. Applicants can propose to intern, conduct research, take BME coursework, or directly enroll at an institution that offers outstanding BME training. Grantees may carry out their study abroad programs at a host institution in any country outside of the U.S., except Canada, but must establish a host relationship in their country of choice. A letter of support from the host is required. Grants can be awarded for one semester (up to a $7,500 scholarship) or one academic year (up to a $10,000 scholarship). Applicants must be FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES OR JUNIORS; U.S. citizens or permanent residents; must demonstrate a need for financial support; and must have at least one semester remaining upon return from their time abroad. Provides need-based support for American undergraduates to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia for a semester, summer, or year. FRESHMAN through SENIORS may apply. Awards are for up to $7,000, with the amount varying depending on the length of study and student need. Carries a small service commitment to promote study abroad in Asia upon return. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with demonstrated financial need; GPA of 2.8 or higher; must have at least one term of enrollment remaining at the U after returning from abroad. Must gain acceptance to an academic study abroad program through the U or another US. college or university. Must have little or no prior experience in the proposed country of study. U.S. government-sponsored scholarships support intensive summer language study in the critical need languages; Azerbaijani, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, or Urdu, at approved language institutes abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens; may be FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, SENIORS, or GRADUATE STUDENTS. All fields of study are eligible. Some institutes have language prerequisites, but many are open to beginners. All program costs are covered, including travel, room and board, instruction, visa fees, and entrance fees for program activities. For undergraduates who are preparing for careers related to the environment and who have demonstrated a commitment to environmental issues. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents; currently enrolled SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS with GPA of 3.0 or higher; of any ethnicity. Provides up to $5000 towards undergraduate education. Scholars participate in a Udall Scholars Orientation in Tucson, AZ in August. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents; currently enrolled SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS with GPA of 3.0 or higher; must meet the Udall Foundation's definition of Native American or Alaska Native. Approximately 50 Udall Scholarships (including Environment, Tribal Public Policy and Native Health Care) are awarded nationwide. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or resident aliens and must be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS in the upper quarter of their class. Selection criteria include outstanding academic performance and demonstrated potential for and commitment to a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Undergraduate research experience is highly valued. Pays up to $7,500 per year for up to two years. Approximately 300 scholarships are awarded nationwide. Administered by the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, this scholarship provides up to $10,000 for up to a year of study or research in Sweden, with some attention to Swedish America or relations between the U.S and Sweden. FRESHMAN through SENIORS and GRADUATE STUDENTS may apply. Must have a working knowledge of Swedish language. The scholarship will not be awarded for language study alone, although language study may be part of the proposal. For undergraduate or graduate study in any field. Applicants must be of Hispanic heritage as defined by the Scholarship Fund, U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident, with GPA of 3.0 or higher. Year-long work-study program beginning in July provides opportunities for young adults to gain cultural understanding, education, and professional experience in Germany. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, age 18-24 at the start of the program; high school, college (FRESHMAN through SENIOR), or GRADUATE STUDENT. Must have coursework and some practical experience relevant to the intended internship field. Exchange Program includes classroom instruction and an internship experience. Covers international and in-country travel, university tuition, a living stipend, and accommodations with a host family or in a student residence. Preferred fields include business, technology, engineering, and agriculture. All fields may apply. German language proficiency is preferred but not required. 75 awards nationwide. For 3-4 week summer courses at German universities, which focus mainly on literary, cultural, political, or economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, SENIORS, OR GRADUATE STUDENTS with outstanding academic records; U.S. or Canadian citizens or foreign nationals who have been full-time students at North American universities for at least one year; must have completed at least 4 semesters of German or equivalent. Supports a term or year of study abroad, for the purpose of equipping Americans with an understanding of less commonly studied languages and cultures in regions critical to U.S. interests. NSEP emphasizes the importance of language study as a major component of the study abroad program. Study of a foreign language appropriate to the identified country must be an integral part of the proposal. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with strong academic records, language and international interests. FRESHMAN through SENIORS may apply for the undergraduate scholarships. Supports a 12-week summer internship program in Berlin for Journalism students. Includes six weeks of study at the Freie Universitat Berlin, followed by an intensive 5-week internship with a German media organization and a one-week educational tour. Intended primarily for undergraduates (FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, SENIOR) but recent GRADUATES and GRADUATE STUDENTS may also apply. Must be majoring in Journalism or a related field; must have "advanced intermediate" proficiency in German; must have some prior experience in practical journalism and a demonstrated interest in German affairs. Supports undergraduate students planning to participate in rigorous education abroad programs during the 2013-2014 academic year or summer 2013. FEA will award $5,000 scholarships to students who study abroad for one semester and up to $10,000 for two semesters of study abroad; students who study abroad for other lengths of time (minimum of four weeks) will receive a proportionate amount. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be committed to supporting education abroad in their campus community through work with the FEA and their campus education abroad staff upon return. Provides generous support at the undergraduate and/or graduate level for students representing all ethnic and social backgrounds who are interested in becoming Foreign Service Officers. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with GPA of 3.2 or higher. Consideration is given to financial need and to significant leadership and service activities. Applicants for the Foreign Affairs Fellowships must be current JUNIORS; applicants for the Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowships must be SENIORS or GRADUATES seeking admission to an appropriate graduate program for the following fall. Provides 12-week summer research experience in nanotechnology for FRESHMAN or SOPHOMORE student in Japan; no prior Japanese language or culture study is required. Participants earn 1 credit through Rice University. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; should have a demonstrated interest in the field of nanotechnology as it relates to THz dynamics of nanostructures; no prior research experience is required. For a semester or year of undergraduate study in Canada. The program encourages exchange between Canada and the U.S. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, full-time undergraduates (in most cases SOPHOMORE or JUNIOR) with outstanding academic records. Fellowships are $10,000 for a year or $5000 for a semester. Fellows also participate in two exchange events, for which expenses are covered. Approximately 20 fellowships nationwide. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS in any field of study at any North American university; must have outstanding academic record and personal integrity; must possess outstanding academic record and personal integrity; demonstrate an interest in contemporary German and European affairs; and have well-defined plans for their time in Germany. Preference is given to students whose projects or programs are based at and organized by a German university.German language proficiency is not required but applicants must have language skills commensurate with their study and research needs. Supports full-time undergraduates taking certain world languages--in general, the less commonly studied languages that are taught at the U through the advanced- (third year) level. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident, FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, or SENIOR; must be a full-time enrolled undergraduate during the grant period and must be well prepared to pursue an eligible language at the INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OR HIGHER during the grant period. Must have excellent academic record, strong international interests, and long-term plans that include further study/use of the language. Academic year fellowships (estimated amount: up to $15,000) are for enrollment in residence at the U of M; summer fellowships (estimated amount: up to $7,000) may be used at other US institutions (or in limited cases abroad) if intensive summer courses are not offered at the U of MN. Provides financial support for undergraduate and graduate students who are veterans or active duty military service members in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, and for spouses or surviving spouses of veterans and active service members. Amount of award is determined case-by-case on the basis of need. Recipients are expected to participate in Tillman-sponsored community service and leadership activities. Additional selection criteria include strong educational and career ambitions, community service, leadership potential, excellent application essays. 60 Scholars will be selected nationwide. Supports outstanding undergraduates from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research, for one to four years. Applicants may be full-time FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES, or JUNIORS. Must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and be certified by the Office of Student Finance as having exceptional financial need. In general, applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, but foreign nationals may apply under certain conditions. Carries a service requirement.
