Man sentenced to 15 years for killing using his GMC Yukon
A Richfield man was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison for killing his romantic rival with a GMC Yukon, the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press reported.
Moises Nieves, 36 told Judge Michael Fetsch, "God forgive us all, because we are all sinners."
This was not enough to temper the sentence for Nieves who killed Sergio Escalona, 46.
The incident occurred Oct. 21 at 3:30 a.m. Reports say that Nieves saw Escalona talking to Maria Rocha, 23, Escalona's ex-girlfriend and the woman Nieves was in love with.
Nieves crushed Escalona between two cars and drove off, staging an accident in an attempt to cover up the murder.
The defense argued Escalona had been abusive to Rocha during their relationship, and Nieves was trying to defend her.
The Star Tribune reported that Nieves will be eligible for release two-thirds of the way through his 15 year sentence.
