Liar Liar

mri-lie-detector-1.jpgAfter reading the section of our textbook on lying, and ways to detect it, I wonder if it will ever be possible to detect if one is lying, with 100% accuracy. I find it interesting that one of our main lie detecting techniques, the polygraph machine, was invented almostone hundred years ago, and we still have not found a more accurate way to detect lies. How many things that were invented one hundred years ago have not been improved to be more effective? Especially one as important as a polygraph machine, that has the power to determine the guilty and the innocent!

Imagine if we were able to develop some way to determine if someone was telling the truth, by simply asking them? If we could determine someones guilt, or equally as important, there innocence, think of all the time and money that could be saved by not having so many long, and drawn out court cases! If this was possible, we could eliminate the possibility of sentencing innocent people to prison! prison.jpg

Whether or not it will ever be possible to test if someone is lying is unknown. It is very possible that this idea is nothing more than a dream. But I believe that more time and energy should be invested in to determining the possibilities because the results of this discovery could lead to extraordinary things.

Interesting topic! Detecting lies is really a difficult task. Using polygraph machine has some biases. However, I believe that some day there will be a reliable device that detect lies. All in all, nice job! And thank you for sharing your idea!

Nice blog. I like how you spaced out your paragraphs with pictures; it made reading your post easy. As you said, it is incredible that we do not have better technology to detect lies. I wonder if we do have better technology but it is simply too expensive to use in court cases?

Very interesting topic! It is odd that no one has invented a more effective way to detect lies after such a long period of time. I wonder if there are any scientific limits that are hindering scientists from discovering a new technology for this topic. It is weird to imagine how different the world would be if we had not developed any new technology over the last hundred years. It would also be interesting to research and see if any scientists have any leads into a new technology to detect lies.

This was a very interesting blog to read. I really have never thought about how old polygraph machines are and that we have not created any other technology that can tell if people are lying. Thinking about technology that we used 100 years ago, and then looking at technology that we use now, I can not think of any other technology that has not been updated. It is very strange that we have not came up with a new technology to better tell if people are lying or not. Great article, it would of been better if you would of found out why we haven't created a new lie detector.

I never thought about it that way! Why do we rely on such an old test to determine if people are lying? You would think that by now we would have more sophisticated ways of detecting lies.
