What do you think should be included in a writing center code of ethics?

Sorry for the late reponse, but yeah, I have one idea (and hopefully more to come).
I guess, should we blog about our experiences? Our entries can be read by anyone through the U's site, and in my case, if you Google "Adam Rusinak," it'll take you to my blog (as it's called "Rusinak's blog"). What if a tutee of mine happens across it, and sees that I've talked about him or her (I've never been specific in those cases, but it's still the principle of the matter)? Could we get in trouble for that? I haven't had time to think about an answer for that, but if I do, I'll post.
Excuse me while I change my blog's name (*sigh* one less hit count on Google).
Posted by: Adam at November 10, 2005 9:22 PMDrat! Since my last name is part of the URL, I still show up on a google search!
Posted by: Adam at November 10, 2005 9:32 PMThat's a good point of Adam's. Like that stuff about him have a requestee. It's funny and good to talk about with co-workers, but is it something that should be publicly blogged? I am guilty of this, as much as anyone else (not trying to like... get Adam in trouble).
Also, what about language we can use/stuff we can talk about while we're at work? Are people who visit mature (since they're in college) enough to hear swear words, for example? Or shouldn't se use them? Or shouldn't that be a problem? What about talk about drugs? Or alcohol? Or sex?
Posted by: Claire at November 11, 2005 2:46 PMOk, sorry for the lateness, but here's what I think:
1. Tutors should not have to tell the instructors of their tutees what went on.
Posted by: Adam at November 12, 2005 5:50 PMCode of ethics, huh? Well, I like where Adam started with the fact that if anyone of our students googled one of our names for a number of reasons (the main of course being that we're all so damn hot), it would be very likely to here themselves being talked about among our discussion. Although there would be no name listed, they still could identify themselves by the description of the experience, wording, and so on.
Another related issue that this gets at, that we've been talking about before actually, is the way that we approach student comments in the database. I know that I've already have had a few that if we did not have to be so careful, I would have went of Reynold's style in order to blow off some steam. But anyways, one part of the code of ethics could be complete objectivity in both the setting of the blog and the comment database.
Lets see... another part of the writing center code of ethics I suppose could be the office conversation, especially since the front desk is butted up so damn close to the door, and everyone can pretty much hear every damn thing that everyone else is saying. Although out new space will probably reduce this problem of noise pollution, it still is important that we keep conversation appropriate. I could go into defining appropriate conversation, but hopefully someone will pick that up with the next thread.
I hope that was helpful Ben. Hope your doin alright, and if ya need to talk or something, don't hesitate to give me a call bro.

The future of blog isn't what it used to be. It used to get podcast and vlogs yet it's morphing into something diffrent that's very unpredictable. Just whenever we think we have a very good handle on it, chaos erupts resulting in the emergence of a couple creative geniuses who help us utilize the possibilities.
