Exploring Minnesota's Natural History

The University Archives recently won a grant from the Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Fund to digitize archival records of the flora, fauna, geology, and natural environment of the state of Minnesota from the University of Minnesota collections, circa the 1870s to the early 20th century.

Once completed, the materials will become accessible via the University of Minnesota Libraries' publicly available digital image database, UMedia.

News about the project is available on their website at: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/uar/naturalhistorymn/.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has released the 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation.

2011 Survey.JPG

According to the F&WS, this survey "collects information on the number of anglers, hunters, and wildlife watchers, how often they participate, and how much they spend on their activities in the United States." The survey has been conducted since 1955 and is one of the most comprehensive recreation surveys in existence.

The survey can be accessed at: http://www.census.gov/prod/2012pubs/fhw11-nat.pdf.
