Build Strong Customer Relationships with Promotional Products

The most important reason for using promotional items is simple: it builds relationships between you and your target audience. By building a relationship and establishing trust, your target audience is more likely to seek you out when they are in need of the services or products you provide.

While every business wants to gain new customers, the single most important thing you can do retain the customers you already have. Not only is this more cost efficient, you are more likely to sell more products or services to repeat customers. Of course, keeping your current customers happy is also essential when it comes to getting new clients. After all, a happy client is likely to spread the word about the product or service you provide. One of the best ways to keep your customers coming back and to help further spread the word about your business is to use promotional items.

Zeroing in on Your Target Audience
In order to effectively build relationships with your target audience through promotional products, you have to take the time to seriously examine that audience and to determine their needs. Obviously, sending a makeup pouch to customers that frequent a hunting website will be an ineffective method of reaching out to your target group. At the same time, a promotional item that seems like a good match may not be. For example, you might think sending a pocketknife to hunters is a good choice, but your research may indicate that most hunters already have a favorite pocketknife and likely won’t use yours. Or, the pocketknife may not be of a high enough quality. In this case, using the knife as your promotional product may actually hurt your image rather than help.

Taking Advantage of Special Events
The most effective promotional products are often tied to special events of some sort. These special events can be on a more personal level, such as your grand opening or a special contest that you are sponsoring. On the other hand, the events can be tied to a more local or national event as well. If you are targeting a nationwide audience, tying your promotions into these national events can really help you create a powerful campaign. Launching a campaign that coincides with political, social, and historical events will help make your campaign more powerful.

Obtaining New Customers
If your goal is to try to build a larger customer base, you can use promotional items as well. By giving away quality and meaningful promotional products, your potential clients will think of you when they need the product or service you provide. Again, these promotions can be tied to certain events, but are also great for giving out at tradeshows.

Tradeshows are the ideal time for you to reach out to potential customers. If you only pass out business cards at the tradeshow, you won’t stand out among the other businesses. By giving a way a great promotional product, however, yours is the business that will be remembered.
