Iron Man
Even with the stop of production thanks to the 2008 WGA strike, which has now been concluded, the summer and winter blockbusters looking to dominate the latter two seasons still show strength. Iron Man kicks off the summer tentpoles on May 2nd. Of the movie trailers seen so far, the Iron Man trailer is one of the best. That doesn't mean Jon Favreau's adaptation isnt going to have some competition. Those who have watched The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian trailer or the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull trailer know that Iron Man has got some competition.
Just when the summer tentpoles couldn't be any more action-packed, both June and July feature their own library of high-octane adaptations. Universal Pictures recently released The Incredible Hulk trailer, giving audiences their first footage of Edward Norton as the title character, Bruce Banner. Hulk isn't the only adaptation to be featured in June, however, with competition coming from the live-action version of Wanted. The Wanted trailer proves that James McAvoy has what it takes to be an action star. With the help of Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie of course.
With the loss of Heath Ledger, audiences are likely to focus their attention on the sequel to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight. Opening to theaters in the middle of summer, the Warner Bros adaptation won't have to face any direct competition. Besides, moviegoers who have seen The Dark Knight trailer know that this film has nothing to fear from other summer films.
Filling in for the comedy genre, Columbia Pictures was sure to release the Pineapple Express trailer to give audiences something other than action this summer.
Once the summer tentpoles close out the season, audiences will be looking to the next Harry Potter installment to close out the 2008 movie season on a high note. Warner Bros. will likely release the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer before summer.
