The Office of Information Technology (OIT) plans to decommission the FileNET Web Content Management (WCM) application on Dec. 31. Units that are currently utilizing FileNET will either need to convert their existing sites to UMContent, which is the replacement application for FileNET, or move to a non-centrally supported solution.
OIT will provide support to departments that elect to migrate their sites to UMContent. This support includes consultations to help implement best practices within UMContent, assistance with the FileNET to UMContent migration process, and other assistance as agreed to by the units and OIT. OIT has developed a migration script to help automate the migration of sites from FileNET to UMContent.
OIT decided to decommission FileNET as of Dec. 31 as the Academic Health Center, College of Continuing Education, Office of Human Resources, and OIT have all started to or have migrated their sites off of FileNET and into UMContent. These units represent about 70 percent of the current FileNET user base. Additionally, OIT is consolidating its server administration into a single group. All servers managed by OIT need to be transitioned to this group by January 1, 2009, and OIT wants to avoid the cost associated with transitioning the FileNET service to this group.
Units that are currently on FileNET and would like to discuss the options available to migrate off of FileNET or are interest in UMContent should contact the UMContent Support Group by filling out an online request at www.umn.edu/onehelp/umcontent/forms/Support/index.html.
