Effective Thursday, Aug. 23, Messaging and Calendaring Services is scheduled to decommission UMChat. Because the same functionality is offered by Google Chat, the instant messaging feature built into Google Apps, we have decided to discontinue offering UMChat as a service.
Use Google Chat
If you have converted to Google Apps, you can use Google Chat through one of the following options:
- Gmail inbox
- Google+
- an instant messaging client, such as Google Talk
Users who do not have a Google Apps account for the University of Minnesota and who need to use instant messaging should transition to Google Apps at www.oit.umn.edu/google/getting-started/index.htm.
