UMWiki Availability

We get a number of requests everyone once in a while regarding the reliability of the UMWiki, so I thought it would be good to post it on the wiki here. The answer is provided by the wiki project manager, Liz Wendland.

"How often is your data being saved? If your server is down, how long before it is back up and running?"

"The UMWiki is a service that the Office of Information Technology provides to all members of the U of MN community. It is run as an 'enterprise' application like WebCT/Web Vista, Moodle or the MyU portal. All data is continuously being sync'd to another server as well as being fully backed up on a regular basis. This means that if some catastrophic event occurred to the UMWiki server, its replacement would be up and running in a matter of hours."

Interesting to note also is the PublishContrib plugin which lets users download entire webs in various formats.
