Study Abroad Scholarship Opportunities for Semester, Year, and Summer!
If you currently receive the Pell Grant as part of your financial package, or if you plan on studying abroad in Asia, we invite you to attend one or both of the following sessions about two scholarship opportunities. To verify that you are a Pell Grant recipient, check your eFAAN via OneStop.
The Benjamin Gilman scholarship provides awards of up to $5000 for US undergraduate students receiving Pell Grant funding to participate in study abroad programs worldwide ($8000 for students studying critical need languages).
The Freeman-ASIA scholarship awards up to $7000 for US undergraduate students studying in East or Southeast Asia. Pell Grant eligibility not required.
Session 1: Benjamin Gilman and Freeman-ASIA Scholarship Information Session
This session will cover eligibility requirements, application deadlines, process, resources, and tips.

Time: 2:00-3:00pm
Location: 289 Humphrey Center
Session 2: Benjamin Gilman and Freeman-ASIA Scholarship Application Workshop
This workshop is open to students who have started the application and need additional help with revising the essays. It will *not* include general information on the scholarship.
Date: Tuesday, February 22
Time: 2:00-3:30pm
Location: 110 Heller Hall
-Prior to the workshop, email thuydoan@umn.edu a draft of your personal statement and follow-on project proposal.
-Bring a draft of your essays with you to the workshop. Only students with a completed draft will be admitted.
-Staff from the Center for Writing and Learning Abroad Center and your peers will review your draft and offer suggestions for revisions.
